Makeba Boateng APR is a distinguished figure in the industry of African fashion and cultural heritage. With over 35 years of experience, she has made significant contributions as a Public Relations Consultant, Independent Researcher-Curator, Archivist, and qualified Personal Property Appraiser.
Boateng is the Founder of Fashion Forum Africa, a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting African fashion legacies through research, exhibitions, and educational initiatives. Under her leadership, the organisation has become a vital platform for indigenous textile communities, established designers, and emerging talents, fostering important discussions around sustainability and cultural identity.
As a USPAP-ISA qualified personal property appraiser, Boateng specializes in the valuation of African cultural assets, focusing on textiles and historical design pieces. Through her firm, Boaten Personal Property Appraisals, she offers expert valuations and cultural consultancy to institutions, collectors, and estates.
Her extensive portfolio includes notable working with the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London, where she secured iconic Ghanaian designer, Kofi Ansah’s, presence at the 2022 Africa Fashion exhibition with notable contributions to various publications, including Marie Claire Nigeria and UNESCO.
Her dedication to nurturing Africa’s creative legacy continues as she collaborated with Debonair Afrik to organize a Fashion Design Summit in 2025, reinforcing her commitment to the growth and celebration of African fashion. Her enduring work continues to safeguard Africa’s fashion memory, ensuring that heritage and cultural identity remain central to the future of the industry.
She’s the Lead Curator of the Alternative Fashion Fabric Fair, a pan-African trade platform dedicated to the raw,
processed and semi-processed materials that power Africa’s fashion and creative industries, which is scheduled to take place from September 17–19, 2026, at the Palm Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
